The life of an otaku

has anyone here been shy or scare of people finding out that your an Otaku that you would secretly be hiding your otaku side?

I haven't tried to hide it. I understand the logic behind it, but I never bothered to. I just don't care what other people think. I've seen the things most people do, heard the things they say, and don't particularly care for the approval of people like that. If they accept me, that's fine. If they don't, then that's fine, too. I did have a girl who had been chasing me turn around and start to avoid me when I mentioned liking anime (and it was only a few sentences about looking forward to going to a convention). It's actually been quite amusing for me, as I wouldn't want to have dated someone who was so opposed to watching something on television that she would make a point to avoid those who liked it.

Ive never tried to hide the fact I'm an Otaku. Everyone that is in my life accepts it but still thinks I'm a nerd, but I don't mind being called that because I'm a proud nerd :D You shouldn't be afraid to show your a otaku, if the people in your life really care for you then they won't care if u like anime or not.

Add me to the folks who don't try to hide what I like. Never have. Never will. Folks who can't deal with it can go p*** up a rope. I even ticked of the pastor's wife at church when I defended what went on at Anime Fest. Out church shopping ..... ;)

Eh, I have admittedly, but there's a few reasons..My family tends to make fun of stuff that they aren't used to. It's a very bad habit, and I never had any support with it. So when I became obsessed with it, I had no one to share with, and though I was never put down for it, I was teased a little.

Meh, but don't get me wrong, I'm not asking for anyone to feel bad for me. I just want friendships, and a girlfriend who I can talk about these things with.

I don't really try to hide it, I just don't tell people about it until they ask.

I used to be scared because a couple of times I told friends and they would say that liking it was lame But that was when I was really trying to fit into the new fads and stuff but right now I decided to do what I like best and that's. Watching anime And now I don't really mind if people find out

I personally don't find anything wrong with being an Otaku. Well, aside from the fact that people stereotype first thing that you might be a basement dweller that lives off of Pocky. But yeah, I was shy to begin with. Then I eventually accepted the fact that being Otaku doesn't determine how people should think of you, and I loosened up about it. People usually don't think I'm an anime fan until the creep up behind me and see me watching an episode on my iPod and smiling like an idiot at the same time. Then the questions come up. Maybe it's just me, but I find it really difficult to keep up all that Otaku-ness inside. If people aren't okay with it, then fine. They just have to accept later on that people have different interests and we don't all have to like Justin Bieber if we don't want to.
