Cosplay Newbie, Advice?

dreamer12888
I have never been to a con or have cosplayed before, any suggestions for a beginner? I am very interested in Yoruichi from Bleach and Blair from Soul Eater. Any advice?

Make what ever you can. It's often cheaper, you know it'll fit and be there on time, and that way you know it'll be the color and texture you want. Also, when buying wigs, expensive does not mean better made. Shop around and ask advice from others. There are few feelings worse than buying something and not getting what you pay for. If you're curious about anything in particular, just ask and I'll help if I can. ^^

I say chose the one that fits your look best as I would hate you to pick something that dose not suite you as from the many years of experience with dealing with this type of thing there are some really spiteful people out there that can ruin in your whole charisma as they pull apart your hard effort you put into a stunning cosplay in my book I am all for any cosplay but it upsets me seeing people hart broken due to some one else's nasty comments but if them things don't bothered you of the two go for Blair as its the easiest to adapt from a proper outfit especially if its your first time its an easier learning curve and if there's a cosply you see you really like don't hesitate to ask the wearer how they did it 9 out of 10 times they will be more than happy to talk to you about it :)

I would like advice as well. Even though my brother and I have planned everything and know the process in making, I would like to know at least what to expect once we wear the outfits and roam a con. Like is it good to carry props around or leave them in the car/room? Oh I should add we're either doing kamen rider fourze and meteor (look them up if you don't' know) or gundams unicorn and sinanju.

in regards to props it would be good to find out your venues policy on that usually there would be a size and weight policy and some construction materials for example a foam mallet would be ok but a bolster wood buster sword or a mettle gunblade would not be I suggest you find out the rules on weapons from the organiser / con website usually in the message boards now what to expect would depend on the costume for example if you was to pick a child hood classic such as Sailor moon, Pikachu or Naruto depending on your age you probably be more likely to be stopped by a lot of people who will want photos with you this would also go if you was walking around with a Portal gun and definitely if you have a GLaDos Potato I sware that was photographed more than anything when I used that one though if you was to do something a little more obscure Such as Rio from Burn Up or Cutie Honey your more likely to be approached by a more truer fan who will 50% of the time like to have a chat about the series as you know it if you want me to try and say anymore just ask hope it helps

well they are both nice easy first costumes no major props IE Weapons or overly large items and the costume themselves are nice and simple but look good.. you can buy good versions of both of those costumes on line or if you are good at amking said items prolly about a month or two in sewing =)

For cosplaying, I suggest picking out something easy first. You can go to thrift stores and find some clothing that can match the character, or you can sow if you want to. If you're going to sow I would suggest sowing cloths to the level your comfortable with. Or just buy the whole outfit on a website if ya want. When picking out a wig I suggest that you either go to a seller that has good wigs or you find some sellers from ebay or some other websites that you can trust with there products. I know that Arda has good wigs and I have heard that Epiccosplay has good wigs also. If anything else you can always join cosplay.com-the community is nice and there very helpful if you need help with anything. :) Also remember, cosplaying is for fun. And cosplay who you want to cosplay as. :)
