Psychological Horror

Lately I've been really into the genre. I didn't think I liked it, but the more I read the more I love the twisted plot lines. Any reccomendations? Manga or Anime *personally mature, really dark, and really gorey, are plusses* But I think this would be a generally good place to talk about anything in the genre you liked, not just what I would. c:

As far as I'm aware, this genre is pretty rare. Especially in the current Moe, Cute, Waifu is Laifu era. The ones I can think off the top of my head are: Another - it has a pretty strong "Final Destination" feel to it. Shiki - A rural out-in-the-middle-of-nowhere village gets some new vampire residents and "why the f**k is everybody suddenly dying of anemia?!" Corpse Party: Tortured Soul - (I think that's the proper title) if you're just looking for gore, you'll definitely find it here. Only 4 episodes, but they are some very messy episodes. If I think of something else I'll come back, but good horror anime is hard to come by. Edit: Idk how I could have forgotten Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. If you enjoy watching best friends kill each other, then this one's for you. The first season gets a bit repetitive, but the second was pretty good. Also, I just realized that manga was okay too, but because that's not really the genre I generally read, I'll take the risk of being "that guy" who just says to Google it and: http://kissmanga.com/AdvanceSearch Toggling the "horror" and "psychological" tags should give you a nice list, and hovering over the titles displays the cover and synopsis. Serial Experiments Lain is definitely an anime you should look into. More on the psychological side with heavy themes psychology and theology, but also contains some horror elements as well.

Gantz- Ever wanted to watch an Anime where you are wondering what the hell is going on, and do not in fact ever find out? Yet somehow you gain an action-filled combination of gore, nudity, and sex? That is Gantz. Minor information point: do read the manga from chapter 90 if you want continuity or some sense. Mirai Nikki- Sometimes one messed up character is all that is needed to turn a perfectly normal sport of "who will become God of time" into a ravaging of brain power.
