Do you watch... (Anime Topic)

origonally b4 i new about streaming site and sites with torrents i went with dubbed bc thats all i knew of, when i hit late highschool, and college i began watching subs ooff of both my computer and the boxsets i own,even now with my subsscriptions, i still watch subs, mainly because lots of words have multiple meanings and if dubbed wrong then it can ruin what may be either an epic speach or an emotionally touching moment.

I've always watched dubbed, I think because it is what I grew up with and what I am use to. I feel like I can connect with the characters better that way. Eventually I know I will have to go to subs to watch all the new shows that I want to watch.

I usually watch dubbed. Mostly because I'm at a point where I don't see much variety in the voices in subbed and the voice actors in japan actually do their best to sound like other voice actors. The voices just seem bland to me, and I find that dubbed is actually getting better. There are also just series that I refuse to watch subbed like Dragon Ball Z.

I don't really mind in anime but it really gets to me when I play games. I'd hear a character talk and I'd think "That's Chie!" or "That's Jude!". It's not horrible but it prevents the experience from being as inmersive as it could be.

I've found most video game dubbing to be well done. Maybe it's just the games I play though. Kingdom Hearts for example did good at choosing people who sound fairly alike to the original Japanese. Maybe because games have a better budget or something. I know I wasn't impressed with Naoto's dub voice in P4 though, because she is supposed to sound like a young teenage boy, but the English dub makes her sound like a sultry feminine mature woman. I like Yosuke's English voice more than the Japanese dub, though, and Teddie's English voice is good even if it's different. I liked Chie's English voice too, even though it's much deeper/mature than the Japanese. It suits her realistic personality much better to have a realistic voice, imo.

video game dubbing is the next step in voice work carriers and there's better money in it so you're gonna get a bit better talent. Anime dubbing is the bottom of the barrel, Few who do it want to do it and it's often amateurs and/or people who don't take it seriously. English voice actors treat anime dubbing like a stepping stone to real voice work so of course it's always gonna be terrible. Half the time they don't even seem to make much attempt at hiding the fact they're reading a scrip. I can't watch dubs of anything anymore, that garbage practically hurts my ears. Sometimes they sound like they pulled random kids off the street who have no clue what they're doing.

It is true that I sometimes see fans posting fandubs to Youtube that even sound much better and closer to the original Japanese, and have more(but not too much) enthusiasm.

Yeah I've heard some fan stuff that sounds on par with 'professional' dubs. Some of em seem like they'd do well in the industry. Of course I'm not saying I haven't heard some bad Japanese voice acting before because I have on several occasions, but at least they try which is more than I can say for many dubbers.
