Character building

I got my characters (full fledged) but for the first time instead of ripping them from my head, Im basing them off of real people, both in my life and my inspiration(idols/Heros/whatever). So here's the problem. I'm having trouble villainizing some of them. I've changed names, the names don't even sound like the originals, even changed up some of the physical appearance. This is gonna be a full novel here so I need to get over this fast! Anyone got tips (besides changing the inspiration) for getting over this? Anyone have this problem before? Ex: taking the sweetest, most flawless person ever and stick a m14 in their hands before making them slaughter a church full of people O_o

well my advice would be to research someone, who is evil or the type of character you want in your book, and see what they do, how they behave and dress. and then mix them the subject you are trying to make into the villain. I understand you still what to keep the basic persona of the person you modeled them after, but as you said the trouble is they aren't a real villain. I would suggest maybe focusing on an event or puts them in a situation which motivates them to seek the course of action you want them to take. remember people rarely see themselves as a villain, but their cause is justified and just misunderstood by everyone else. I hope this helps a little :/

You wanna villanize a character that you want the audience to hate? I've done this a few times before and this tactic has worked for me: Get into this character's head and act like them normally. Then introduce the evil aspect into that normality. Let the character's dark thoughts mingle with the normal ones. Yell out a few evil hammy lines if you have to. Act the evils they'll be carrying out in the story and make yourself disgusted at the character you are acting out created. Let their thoughts flow into yours and pen them. We are own worst enemies and we can glorify or damn ourselves the most. This process also works for heroes, but I've found a few people over-glorify them, so be careful when you do that.
