He doesn't look like him!

I agree as well Ridingcatbus. Also a good way to have chemistry in your relationship there's no better choice than be with a chemist like myself :) but to be honest there should be more than just chemistry if a relationship is to work out I feel.

After anime the only difference that I have found when looking for someone the opposite sex is I try to find someone that is moe and does not mind anime/manga or really heavy music.

Hmmm I find this thread somewhat overlooks that while, yes, it's good to look past someone's looks and get to know someone and how they are on the inside, there's actually a lot of people say about themselves by the way they look and present themselves and I think that subconsciously we pick up on that and it creates an initial attraction. While it's a good idea to get to know someone on the inside, I don't think it's silly to rely on physical attraction to some extent to lead us in the right direction.

sure, no one wants to be with someone they don't like. some get really lonely and desperate and try to convince themselves that anything is better than nothing but then they end up miserable. For me, I rather be alone than unhappy. If I can't find what I'm looking for I'm not going to take what I'm not looking for.

Hmm, are you talking about body image being skewed by anime? If so, I do have some experience with that. I remember feeling that everyone was indeed lacking compared to anime. It was a time where I did not socialize and had this deep loathing for people in general, so that was a bad combination. It wasn't purely cosmetic, and actually, most of all, it was personality-wise. People just aren't as wildly diverse as anime depicts them. Multiple people in the same group can be shy, obnoxious, or whatever. Also, cliche anime things do not happen in real life. Magical anime girls/boys do not fall out of the sky and into your lap. I mean, obviously THAT wouldn't happen, but sometimes you believe that someone will at least talk to you out of nowhere and magically become best friends, just like a typical slice-of-life/school-life manga. You start believing that unexpected and exciting events would just come to you for doing nothing, just like typical shounen anime. As for body image, well it did make me feel self conscious too. Moreso myself than other people. I felt like my upper arms and belly were too fat, even though I'm small. Anime really exaggerates body proportions to make them look perfect. I hated how my legs got fatter when I sat down and thought it was unnatural because well, what anime shows legs that squish from sitting? @_@ Yeah, watching too much anime at an impressionable age really can be harmful to the mental health of some people. I actually heard a story somewhere, not sure if it's true but it's believable either way... There were two girls who both liked anime and they became friends. Then somewhere down the line, one girl got a boyfriend, and the other girl just exploded with hate and jealousy, and said something like, "I hate you, you only have a boyfriend because you're skinny and fake like anime girls!". I don't know exactly what the quote was, but it's something like that. It's really sad and true that some girls really suffer from anime just as badly as seeing magazine models(though the latter probably worse if the girl doesn't know about Photoshop). If I remember correctly, the girl who got mad was actually anorexic, and had done that outburst during her recovery.

I find this thread funny, I'm seriously curious how Wallace found a 4-year old thread. ^-^
