Is it awkward to talk about Anime/Manga to random people?

angelicfire
Isn't awkward supposed to be the new cute nowadays?

Not something I'd ever do. An employee at a place I'd go to every now and then noticed some stuff on my old car and brought up anime every time I'd see them. But their knowledge on the subject was extremely limited so there wasn't much to talk about. For example they mentioned being a fan of "robotech" a number of times, enough said...

I feel like they make it awkward tbh. Im pretty open about my interests at work but half the girls there look lost when i bring up tsundere stuff. Guys either give me shit about it, bring up DBZ/pokemon, or actually watch anime

it is not awkward unless they assume I'm talking about hentai which happens more often then you would think

Yes it's pretty awkward if they aren't tolerant or understanding Everyone who I have tried talk to about anime (that don't watch it) think it's all cartoon and Hentai. I was friends with a guy who called people over 18 that like/watch anime are "disgusting". Once again I won't talk about it first because most people thinks it's Hentai or for kids.

I'd give it try. Chances are they've at least seen DBZ or like Pokemon. Its more an issue for me trying to find girly friends who are interested in stuff like that. I had one awesome coworker who was into anime and video games and we just talked for hours. :D

It's about as hit and miss as a Fissure or Horn Drill. Sometimes you are like, oh that reminds me of blah blah blah, and the person looks as vacant as Slowpoke or Psyduck like "...?" And other times it's like oh I saw you had an Itachi screen, oh yeah he is my favorite character, when back story was revealed I cried almost as much as when Ace died... and you almost miss your train stop talking non stop to a complete stranger for 25 minutes XD

I enjoy random conversation about anime with people I just met

Only awkward if they don't know what your talking about.

I don't have any problems with it at all. Whether I know them or not, I tend to have a very universal approach to bringing up the subject in the right context. I'm fairly adept at dispelling stereotypes, while keeping it honest, and I know just the right gateway animes depending on who I find I'm talking to. As in I don't start them off watching something like Kill la kill. Besides. Otaku or not, most everyone has seen at least one Miyazaki movie. 'Sides. Nerds are sexy these days. You shouldn't hide it.
