I don't understand why there is even an argument about how rape theme is controversial or not controversial. Your typical person will understand rape is a bad word, with bad connotations, sometimes used modernly for comedic effect (especially when playing online multiplayer games -_-*) but to the core of the definition understand that it is sexual assault, un-consentual sex and that it is in fact observed as a crime in most modern countries. Now that we have the definition, we know, despite this, there is a huge demand for it in the hentai/porn industry, otherwise the market wouldn't be saturated with it. To simplify: It's bad, but people want it. < There is the controversy.
