1. Neon Genesis Evangelion: This show is the pinnacle of human artistic achievement. You might not enjoy or like this show but god DAMN if you shouldn't watch it. 2. Akira- This movie is flawed as hell and isn't even a personal favorite but fuck it might have the best animation and the best musical score in all of anime. Truly a transcendental experience i sure wish the writing was better. 3. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya / The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya - Still the defining 00s anime in my opinion even if Toradora and MAYBE Gurren Lagann are technically better shows. The most compelling anime girl you'll ever meet leads you on a series of paranormal adventures that she herself is unaware. Plot sounds basic but it's all in the fact that this show is SO unbelievably charming and lovable that it remains a REAL favorite a decade later. 4 Full Metal Alchemist - This show is like an 8/10 at best but it has a little bit of EVERYTHING that anime has to offer and does it all surprisingly well. Impossible not to fall in love with at least ONE character. 5. The Big O - Sometimes, just sometimes, anime is REALLY fucking cool.

1. Bacanno!- Everything from story structure to a great cast of characters that just own the screen every time they're shown. It's a non linear story told bouncing between different years, while telling 3 separate stories that come together beautifully. There isn't even a main protagonist in the series and I love that part about it. 2. Gurren Lagann - It is one of those anime that really gets me pumped. I feel invested the whole way through and am captivated by the larger than life feel that the series demonstrates time and time again. 3. Monster - This is my favorite story in all of anime. The way it was paced and the execution of the story was so good. There isn't an anime that I've seen that gets nearly as suspenseful as Monster. 4. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - This show has a little bit of everything in it. The characters and the tight story telling are the reasons i love it so much. This series has a huge cast and all of them are at least somewhat interesting and have their own motivations for why they do things. Plus the last 12 episodes of the series has absolute non stop action that is actually justified. It was a great way to end the series. 5. Hajime No Ippo - This is a rather simple series but executed great. It's easy to get invested in the many characters you get introduced to. The fights are absolutely insane. They capture the tension and the energy of a boxing match extremely well. I literally scream at my computer screen rooting for my favorites to win. I get legit hype lol

1. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - It's just really the best. It's perfectly well balanced for everyone and hard to hate. If you're gonna watch anime, you should watch this. 2. Sword Art Online - People discredit the series because the second half of both seasons is ALO which is admittedly rushed and not done as well BUT, the series overall is totally worth seeing. It's fantastic and is easy for anyone to watch and enjoy. Even better if you're a gamer yourself. I've gotten several people to start watching anime on this one specifically because it's so enjoyable to watch. 3. Steins;Gate - Science fiction at its best. It's one of those anime that's just on a whole other level and should be seen at least once. It is a tiny bit heavy, but it's just so interesting that you really should just watch it because unless you just have to have those explosions in your shows and are just a boring person, you won't be able to stop watching it. A great way to see anime in a new light and witness something you'll never forget. 4. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - Literally one of the most interesting series of all time, because it's the purpose of the series to be as interesting as possible. I consider it a staple as far as anime go because it covers practically every genre and it does it well in an exciting fashion. It's true that it doesn't end which is a bit disappointing, but it's worth watching none the less just for the experience. Just by watching it I felt that it had enriched the way I thought about life and how to make it exciting. To be more open minded and not care about the small things that get in the way of having fun and also to try a little bit of everything and live life to its fullest. 5. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - The manliest of manly series to have ever manned a mecha brigade of men. It's really hard to dislike this series. Especially if you already understand the passion of "screw the rules". It's unbelievable how unique of a series it is and it really does just have a way of toppling over others with an iron fist of "**** you". I do think it's more suitable for male audiences than female ones so I typically only recommend it to guys, but are there women who would love it? Absolutely. What's not to love? It embodies its own spirit and emotion and is a great way to visualize a way to look over the overly detailed things with your heart. Kick logic to the curb and do the impossible. Side note: For the womens I typically recommend Clannad instead. Which is amazing. Heartbreaking. But amazing.

1. Neon Genesis Evangelion - As stated before people may or may not like it, but it's one of the biggest things out there, and honestly one of my personal favorites for the amount of enjoyment and discussion that built around it when talking with people. 2. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - A sad story at it's finest, or happy depending on how you look at it when it ended. The feels this anime gave though are real. Plays with the concepts of homicide, genocide and suicide a lot. 3. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - Come on, you haven't lived until you survive Endless Eight, Espers, Time-travelers, Aliens and Sliders right? Amazing soundtrack, amazing story and characters and the spinoffs are enjoyable too. 4. Hitsugi no Chaika - I have two words for you, SHOCKING TRUTH. A little bit of comedy mixed in with a thrilling action series and you get a very memorable loli speaking in broken sentences along the lines of: "Toru, Akari have forbidden love? Chaika no informed". Corrupt characters and the like. 5. Toradora! - I mean for a love story this one gets you where it needs to. All of the characters are enjoyable (okay you might just hate Aki a little bit), but you can genuinely feel Taiga and Ryuuji's troubles as the series progresses. I'm wasn't huge into anime where romance or slice-of-life were one of the focal points, unless we're talking a harem comedy - but Toradora! pulled it off very well and might have just been one of the only reasons I decided to try K-On!
