For those of you that hide your identity online...

prince, I have another friend that feels that way. It's a self perception issue that's difficult to deal with.

People only worry about shit being used against them because of guilt neurosis about things they feel the need to hide to be "accepted" by everyone. I have naked pics online and don't care if you find them. I would rather not have them posted to my family but thats more for their benefit than mine. I don't give a shit who sees me naked, but Im also not trying to become a teacher or other position where it would matter. I wouldnt post my number publicly but only because I don't want people prank calling me. Who cares otherwise if someone knows my name or whatever. I'll give you my gps co-ordinates, stalk me all you want, it would be boring as fuck. My online life is only slightly more entertaining. I dont really have anything interesting to hide.

Aside from my face (which people assume I'm in cosplay, though I haven't used cosplay pics in all of forever) and snippets of what is going on, I don't post very personal info. No pictures of my house, my relatives, or anything that had to do outside my interests. Jeebus, you already get creeps who message with really invasive and offending questions. Yeah. Cases of stalking (-cough- reaaally snoopy people) and identity theft aren't pretty. Already enough to deal with plagiarists as is.

I find it interesting how some people say they'd rather be jugded by their character than their looks to explain their use of anime pics rather than pics of themselves... somebody who only cares for looks wouldn't get involved with you if you have no pictures of yourself most of the time; and superficial people who do... would still write you off once they know how you look. You want to be friends with those people as long as they're not aware of your looks? If you want to actually avoid superficial people, having a picture of yourself would be far more beneficial. People who don't care about looks, won't care about your pictures anyway. Having a picture of yourself usually gives a more personal and serious feeling. I prefer profiles with pictures because that way it feels more like there's another person on the other end. Not some rp-er. I've been stalked, assaulted and all that shit. Still I don't see a point in hiding my identity online. if somebody really wants to know where I live, what I do etc... they'll be able to find out (welcome to the inernet), so this profile having photos of myself wouldn't change anything. Everyone could find out the crucial things about anybody else if they wanted to. Even so, I still believe it's everyone's own choice to decide whether or not they want to add pictures of themselves on here. I'm not going to ignore someone just because they don't have their rl looks displayed on their profile.
