when an anime dies

That's what Doujinshis, fanmade games and Fanfics are for. Those worlds do not just die. They keep existing through the Fandoms. You can keep a world alive as long as you wish. :o The authors create the world but the fans keep it alive.

This sounds like a symptom of the manga/anime industries overreliance on open ended story structure. Which is like a bad habit that seems to be embraced especially with the manga industry. We've all been let down with a lackluster ending that's just thrown together. Its common for mangaka to format their works as if they are assuming that it will be hugely popular and run for years. Wishful thinking? But when the series loses popularity the mangaka doesn't have time to flesh out a proper ending. So many are left open ended. So. I think because of the rarity for satisfying finales with closure we have a tendency to be very attached to characters and their worlds. That anxiety that we feel when a series ends is probably a conditions response. Think about it. Try to recall a story (on any medium) that had a satisfying endingDeathParade. Now think of another one you really liked, but the ending left something to be desired. What do your feelings tell you? With a proper ending, even if I felt attached to the series, I don't feel that twinge. Not that it wont be missed. But it is ok how it ended and I am happy that it did. ...man, I hope I didn't read into what you were saying incorrectly. Edit: @panda-kun I suppose that I should of asked if you feel the same way with everything or just certain series. And though my point is basically referring to manga, because of adaptations the issue carries over to anime as well.

I wasnt talking about endings although what you said had a good point. What i meant is yeah some stories have that satisfying ending that leaves you like ok there is nothing more i could want but when sort of grow fond of a certain series that even though the ending was perfect you wish there was more. Sorry i cant explain it properly....and fanfics arent the same yeah they keep the story going but thats not the actual story its something the person making it feels should happen they are just spinoffs of the original. If any of you were story writters yourselves you would know what im trying to say. Basically how would you feel if you made a story gave life to the characters, gave them personalities, created your own little world only to see it die in the end when you can no longer keep it going. Its like having a child and watching them pass away (bad example but oh well)

The last episode of Baccano! actually has some interesting ideas on this subject in the dialogue between the Vice President and that little girl.
