Untitled Fiction Story #1

icelord24
This world is a dark and cold place, filled with peasants of all kinds and the rich people who tell them what to do. A world where, even though we lived in a mixed economy, we are still told through some sort of psychic entity of what to buy and sell. It pisses me off all sorts of ways to live in this contradictory hell. 100 years ago you could cross the streets without looking and the driver would stop because he was nice and cared for his reputation… Now all the drivers get “points” for running over someone who’s crossing the street without looking, or J-Walking. As I lay here in my room, staring intently at the ceiling above me, which could collapse at any moment, I think to myself out loud, “I don’t want to live on this planet anymore; I don’t want to live at all.” “Now why would you say something like that?” As I look at the door, I see a slender looking person, a woman, wearing a business suit that seems to show a little more skin than necessary, and a face only a doll could have. “Nothing, mom. I was just talking to myself.” I turn around on my bed so my back is facing hers. All I can think about is, why do we have to live in this time? Why couldn’t I have been born in another dimension, where the planet isn’t gray in the sky 24/7, and the air doesn’t smell like a sewer? “What’s wrong, Oliver? You can tell me.” She walked up to the bed and sat down next to me. She seemed very desperate to make me happy, but as it was, depression just got the better of me, so I stayed silent and ignored her questions.

It’s the year 2112, there are no flying cars or spaceships, we have yet to find a cure for cancer, and basically… we have nothing that was promised to us from the past. Women’s work clothes look like those from fetish magazines, and men have to wear a suit and tie all the time. Actually, the only thing we do have that was promised to us was a time machine. But good luck for me to try to get one, I’m a poor kid, living in a poor family where my mother is forced to work as “The beauty queen down the street”. As for my dad, he left us long ago after he went back in time. Maybe if I win the lottery I’ll have a chance to buy a time machine and live where everyone was peaceful. Yeah, I’ll do that tomorrow, I’ll submit a lottery ticket and try to win the Googol prize; yeah that’s right, Googol. No one has won the lottery in 112 years, so the money has been raised that high. The next day I went to do what I meant to, even though I may not be old enough, nobody cares. I wrote a ticket number, submitted it, and went back home. The lottery was supposed to play tonight, so I must wait. 1 hours passed with me staring at the blank television in our room, even if you have no cable, or have no power, that one lottery channel will still play on the television somehow. Even I’m still unsure on how it works. Another hour passes, one more to go then I’ll check to see if I won. My mother just came home from work, changed into her regular house outfit, and went to bed. She didn’t even say hi to me, or asked me what I did all day and why I didn’t go to school, just plopped on the bed, and fell asleep.

The hour of the lottery, the TV suddenly turned on; they rolled the balls and started to call numbers. My numbers were: 21, 14, 18, 43, 98, and 1. as they rolled, I realized the chances of me winning the lottery are less likely than to be hit by a thunder strike 3 times in a row. Here they go, the first number rolled down; 21, then the second number and the third; 14, 18. I was getting excited, my hopes growing with each second that passes. 43, then 98. Oh, what a day! I got up off my bed and started to jump in joy at the last number. “1, 1, 1! I need a 1! I’m going to-…” At that moment, the final ball fell… 37. I slumped and fell to the floor. What had happened was unimaginable. I completely forgot the way this world works; think pessimistic, not optimistic… You get what you don’t want; you never get what you want.

Nice opening you have there . . . But, are you have no intention to continue it. The basic idea seems a futuristic, yet uncontroable world. Just as if a girl suddenly appear and said that "Is this the future?" that would be a nice story. And then, the main char get a time machine and take her to her time. When he see the old time itself, it just like he don't wanna to go back anymore. Or rather . . . something forced him so he can't back to his time

hmm... I don't know. You're idea sounds very interesting. But I'm not understanding what you mean about the part where something is forcing him to stay back in time. Once he gets that time machine, he's going to go back in time and stay there. He's not going to want to go back. XD As for the girl part, I actually got an idea with that. She comes from the future and went back in time. During her time travel the time machine messes up so she can't go back. As the main char is walking to the park he sees her appear in front of him and gets really excited about a working time machine. The only problem was that it doesn't work so he gets depressed again and she starts looking for another one but realizes the only way to get another one would be to either win the lottery or steal one. The guy agrees. So yeah. o3o I'm gonna start writing that. :D
