SOME otaku say you cant cosplay non anime characters at an ANIME con?

naboo_jedi
i had this 14 year old tell me that i shouldn't cosplay star wars and she said if you want to do that go to a sci fi convention. and im telling her " i can cosplay star wars or any non anime character i want too." its like wtf i can understand where she's coming from but its annoying. I dont like cosplaying anime 25/7 at anime conventions! i like a good variety! has anyone else dealt with people like that XD its annoying!!
hush
I dealt with that when I cosplayed Zatanna one year at a con. Personally I don't have an opinion on it; I think it's subjective depending on the congoer, but for her to chide you for not cosplaying anime seem silly. xD

I think it's a rule unspoken. It's generally assumed that if you were going to Cosplay at an Anime/Manga convention, it would be as a character from an Anime/Manga, although no one actually has the right to tell you that straight up. Whoever said that to you is just plain rude.

not to be rude but............... i can picture it like this an Emo guy goin for a Rap concert or wearin LeBron jersey goin for a World Cup Match (be sure to bring vuvuzuelas though).

Folks need to obsess over something that's actually important. Cons are for having fun. If you can't relax and have fun, go bother folks somewhere else. Some folks aren't happy unless they're telling someone else what to do. I really like your costume Naboo_Jedi. Don't let anyone else ruin your fun for you. And if you want to get technical, Star Wars was animated. Close enough to Anime that folks should just get a life.

OK ..... I'm calmer now...... Look, I understand the concept that at Anime conventions, Anime Cosplay is what you would reasonably expect to see. But anyone who takes the trouble to Cosplay a fictional character should be welcome. Life is too short to obsess over such a thing. I feel the same way about the whole discussion over what's Anime or Manga and what's not. People that focus on such stuff should have their own convention and let the rest of us simply enjoy. This is not heart surgery folks. No one dies if you wear a jedi costume to an Anime Con. If you can't get this one into perspective, you're in for a rough life.

@Naboo Jedi I have no problem with dressing as a Jedi. The Jedis always show up at every convention in the NY/NJ area, be it anime, comic book, what have you.

my rule is if furries are allowed then so is anything else...

Really, you can dress up as anything for any con; it's basically like extra Halloween. At Anime Expo, I've seen Jack Sparrow, Dead Mau5, Disney princesses and princes, Mario characters, brawl characters, assassin's creed, and even pandas (Not like Kung Fu Panda, but just a panda). SO really, the person who said that to you really doesn't know how cons work.

I don't really like to see a non-anime cosplay, but it's not that bad. Final Fantasy is popular and it started as a game, as for MGS and Monster Hunter. I also spotted some extremely non-anime cosplays like the strange blue guys from Avatar and MasterChief from Halo.
