A "Normal" Otaku

I'm pretty normal for an Otaku, even tho I watched more Anime and own more Manga than anyone I know. But I don't wear or behave in any special way in normal society, only that I sometimes scratch the back of my head when I'm embrased.

I wouldn't consider myself "normal but I'm definitely more mellow than your average everyday otaku.

I see it alot in Otaku and rpers, it is kind of unnerving. While I am a fan of walking around in town in my outfits. I also know that some things are acceptable and some are not, at least when it comes to behaviour. When it comes to going to the mall in Loli, more power to you. >D

Hehe...No one should have to feel that they are defined by their likes or dislikes. I love Manga (Supa LOVE it) but I would hate to think that it defines me as simply an Otaku, I would like to think I am more than that. People who narrow mindedly categorize others by their past times, are too ego-centric to be worried about. In regards to being mature about ones fandom, I think there is a time and place for everything. If I were at a Con, sure being off the chain Otaku style is great, when I am at work it is not the time nor place to allow my alter ego to run rampant. (Needless to say I prefer being at Cons to being at work).

I'm usually normal around other people but get all excited if I find out they like anime. I adjust my otaku-ness to the people I interact with. If they're not into anime, I don't even veer into the subject. If they're hardcore otakus, then I may use -san/-kun/-chan from time to time and make random references to shows. Basically it depends who I'm talking to, and yes, there is always a time and place for everything. :)

Day to day, my Otaku doesn't get the chance to see the light of day. Unless I whip out a Japanese manga to practice my reading skills out on the range, you'd have to walk into my room or bring the subject up to find out I'm a fan.

Most people never even think I'm a Otaku, Only after asking me do they find out, unless I'm with my anime group or at a convention is it otherwise Xp And either way, I'm consistently just being myself, I don't have to "turn off" my otakuness lol

The only time that I show my "otaku-ness" is when I go to cons. I usually just dress up normally and stay away from the "hardcore otaku" at school.

Yes, that annoys me but I've never really had to deal with it very much.
