I have a crack pot theory for the end of the rebuild series. What if it isn't a sequel for neon genesis? Hear me out. Shinji fought in the anti-universe at the end of the movie. Shinji birthed a new world in the anti-universe. Shinji states that that new world is called "Neon Genesis Evangelion." So the rebuild made the neon genesis universe. The rebuild is actually a prequel not sequel to Neon Genesis Evangelion.
