Affordable care act is a lie

I have to disagree with some things xueli. First " Employers slashing hours isn't exactly something that falls under the scope of the government. That's up to the companies to decide. The government can't dictate to companies that they cannot cut their workers' hours because then some people will claim they're overstepping their bounds. It's a no win situation." With respect I take issue with this and perhapsI mmisunderstand something, if so please say so. Slashing hours is up to the companies to decide but in this case it is only occurring because government intervention raised the cost of having full time employees and lowered the standard of what defines a full time employee. Slashing hours was a predictable consequence of these actions and thus shouldn't have been in the healthcare bill. You can hardly blame a company for trying to maintain the normal profit margins it is use to and even if you do you should at least know this was likely to happen. Second "I've been looking at the reports from the Bureau of Labor and it seems more like the opposite in that it's showing jobs gain instead of losses with employers giving the same amount of hours as a year ago. Also it seems like the number of people who work part time that would rather work full time is also lower than a year ago as well." I take issue with this because the issue I am talking about just happened and shouldn't have any numbers to attribute to it yet. Also those numbers are easily manipulated. A scandal came out that shows the employment numbers were manipulated and incorrect leading up to the last election. Also a mmuch bigger reason that I say this is that those numbers are based on what you define as unemployed, underemployed, ect...... So you literally can not trust those numbers. You must know exactly how they define those categories. Third Kohls was just an example, I am sure there will be plenty more popping up soon. It has yet to be actually put in place. I respect that you did research and had an informed opinion. Honestly it is only because my own personal unique experiences that I know about the manipulation of employment numbers, though many had suspected it for years.

@Jacob This is a classic chicken scenario. If the government should pass anything that the companies dislike, they'll start slashing numbers even where there's no proof that it cuts into their bottom line. (Except insurance companies, ACA will definitely cut into their bottom line which is why they started ending plans left and right). I think it was a hope that companies wouldn't be that big a dick, which yeah maybe a bit misplaced but well there ya go. Also if you're referring to the 2010 job report scandal that's going around I totally don't believe it. I don't believe the statements of one anonymous source who when the name was released didn't work at the the bureau at the time of the report. Also 2 years before the election isn't really leading up to the election so I don't think it'd be that convenient of a timing. Besides it's already been a couple of quarters that's passed since ACA was passed so there should be solid data on in especially when they do monthly job reports. I've heard various stories yet once again I haven't seen those statements be reflected in any job report to date. I'm more scientifically inclined, I don't count anecdotal evidence :P *sigh* I do have a habit of cross referencing like all my news stories. Lol, I have a problem :/

I won't claim to be an expect of health policy, however I have been to and spoken at hearings related on the ACA on a state level. It is a large piece of legislature that is far from perfect. Some people have benefited from it, and some people have suffered because of it - That's the way law works. Yet, I think the most significant problem with the ACA has been implementation. If they didn't screw that up, maybe it would be a little better. Certainly I have issues with some things that it does. However, much of what people say about it, both good and bad is misconstrued. As sad as some stories are, they are still but stories of individual experiences. That doesn't make them unimportant, but there is a perspective to put them in. Also, based on what I've read the full-time mark is 30 hours. On that note, if we really want to reduce costs of health care it will take more effort than most people are likely willing to give. We'll have to sacrifice something to make systematic changes. An aging overweight population with high rates of chronic disease = high costs. Combine that with the overuse of antibiotics, medications, and medical imaging (i.e. CT scans) and then you have a bad situation. Now add onto that bureaucracy. @zero_onimatsu, karasu is right that it's not possible. At least I think it isn't for a doctor. It would take someone with a public health, health policy, administration, and business background of which doctors don't have time for all of that.

Not a fan of the act as well. It causes more problems than solves, or so it seems. The administration is not willing to give out many concrete facts. It effects the middle class more than the other two classes. Meanwhile, our tax dollars are going to Michelle Kosilek, who was born as Robert Kosilek and is serving a life sentence for the killing of his wife in 1990. Which, in my view, is not how the system should be spending money on for a convicted person. For those interested how the government spends our money, here's a link. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/01/17/court-affirms-mass-murderer-right-to-get-sex-change-in-prison/.

The problem with politicians is that they think that legislation fixes everything. I'm going to put more of the blame on the Democrats in this case, but several Republicans are guilty of this as well. If simply writing on a piece of paper "healthcare should be affordable!" could fix the problem, that would have happened decades ago. The nine worst words in the English language: "I'm from the government and I'm here to help." The Government is not Ghostbusters. They aren't the Justice League. They aren't even Celestial Being (despite the best efforts of many of our Presidents).
