IS it worth going to art school?

kronos
Granted, the art world is a highly competitive field to get into. But if you feel you're up to it, proceed. Just remember to have a backup plan (just in case).

I feel like, if i get an Fine Arts degree(the art field i work in), I wont be able to find a job. I’ll still make and sell my art regardless, because it’s my passion, but i feel like a degree in art may not be valuable in the terms of successfully getting a job from it. Although i’ve heard and a lot of success with graphic design. But graphic design is not really my cup of tea. I like drawing and animating the most. I don’t think I need a degree to make my art. I feel like it’d be a waste of time and money for me. I know a lot of animating youtubers are on Youtube for the fact that Youtube was their last hope at finding a job. For others an art degree might not get them a job necessarily, but it might look good on a resume. There’s also art classes, so you don’t necessarily even need to go to college to learn art. I’m thinking about maybe getting a degree in linguistics instead. Idk why but languages are really fascinating to me right now. I know that I probably could get a job as an interpreter or something. I know there are a lot of job options and opportunities with a language degree. Really though, if you’re having trouble figuring out what college/career/degree to go for. You’ve got to do a lot of research. Look for a job you want, and find the degree that will get you said job. Then look for a good college to get said degree. You’ve got to find what works for you. Only you know what you want. You may not even want to do college. You may even go straight into the work force and explore what’s out their. If you need to, dedicate 3 days to doing research. Do I want to do college in state or out of state? Do I want to live on campus? Doni even want to go to college? Ask yourself questions. Ask questions in general. Look at college websites. Look at ratings. Look at popular jobs. Some colleges, art colleges in particular, are expensive. At least the ones I’ve seen. Seek answers. Get messy. Play with different ideas. It’s up to you what you do with your life. I hope this helped.

Reviving an 8 year old thread, that is the biggest grave digging I have seen.

Ya welcome :) I had a similar question and a similar experience last year, so i thought i’d give my opinion for anyone else that might be going through the same thing. Lol. Art is a very unique topic to talk about sometimes.
