Crisp leaves crunched under his boots as he trekked up the hill. Dried leaves blanketed the ground Choco walked on, the soil becoming dense from the chilling autumn climate. The wind nipped at Choco's exposed nose, causing him to move his scarf further up his face. A rifle slung across his back, he was clad in camo gear, decorated in a soiree of greens and browns. He blended perfectly into his environment as he continued to stalk around the forest. It had been 15 years since he had last set foot into these woods, but this time he was prepared. He would right the wrong of so long ago. Despite the fact that it was midday, the forest was silent, only the sound of your harsh breaths and crunching of the leaves beneath your feet filled your ears. For this neck of the woods, that wasn't too surprising. For this was that things territory. You froze suddenly, your foot still up mid step. You felt perfectly still, like a detailed statue in the middle of the woods. Your heart raced in your chest, thumping violently against your ribcage and echoing in your ears. Focusing your breathing, you took in slow, drawn out breaths calm yourself. Slowly, you turned your head to the side, catching sight of a young deer. It had a charcoal nose and white speckles decorating its flank. It hadn't noticed your camoflosed form, going about its day as usual. Batting its long doe lashes, it buried its nose into the underbrush, scourging for food. You let out a long, drawn out breath, chastising yourself for becoming so worked up. 'This isn't like before.' You told your side inside your head. 'This time i have the means of protecting myself.' Placing your foot back down, the does attention was caught toward where you were. It's large, pitch black eyes scanned in your direction, still unable to distinguish you from the surroundings. Your back turned to the small creature, you continued your journey. "Eep!" The small creature sounded in surprise from behind you. Turning around, you saw that the doe was no longer behind you, and instead small droplets of blood laid on the leaves. They were so small, you wouldn't have seen them if you didn't know what you were looking for. 'It must be here.' Slowly, you grabbed the strap that held the rifle to your back, pulling it over your head and holding it in your hands. You took off one black glove from your hand, wrapping the now free hand around the trigger of the gun. You raised the rifle to your face, looking around, the gun becoming an extension of your arm. A small crunch of the dried leaves from behind a tree caught your attention. You'd be lying if you said that the sudden noise didn't make you nearly jump from your skin. Your heart pounded in your chest, threatening to burst right through. As you stepped closer to the tree, your hearing and feeling were overtaken by your thumping heart. It reverberated in your hands and drowned out your hearing. Swiftly turning behind the tree, your gun pointed upward you were met by nothing. "Eep..." looking down, you saw the small doe. It's limbs had been twisted and broken, the white of its bones protruding, unstained by the blood that pooled around it. It laid in the brush, writhing in pain. Your stomach quivered and churned at the sight, traveling up your your throat and threatening to expel. Tightening your grip on the trigger, you faced the gun down toward the pitiful creature. Swallowing the growing knot in your throat, you decided to put it out of it's misery. The shot fired off, scaring off the birds that hung in the naked trees miles away. Your eyes fluttered as you observed the spot you had shot at. Your heart no longer attempted to escape your chest, but instead sank to the pit of your stomach. The deer was gone. A small hole laid in the ground where it had laid its head. Your instincts caused you to turn around quickly, and before you was the creature. It stood over 8 feet tall, more than towering over you. It had the gigantic naked skull of a stag, except with teeth of that of a carnivore. The horns that stood atop the skull were black, small skulls of creatures hanging off of them. A black tattered cloak laid atop its shoulder blades, wrapping around it's large body. From what you could see from between the opening of the cloak, the creatures abdomen was like that of a human ribcage, completely bone, but with piece of rotting flesh still attached to the bones. Leaning down, it opened its bone jaws, expelling the scent of rotting flesh. You couldn't tell, however. Even the feeling of it's hot flesh on your cold face escaped you. At that moment you were frozen in time and space. It continued to lean down toward you, it's mouth widening as it grew closer. 'There it is' You thought. 'The accursed Wendigo' As the situation was starting to become real to you, your hands began to shake violently. Accidently, your finger tightened around the trigger, shooting the Wendigo in the abdomen, chipping off a piece of its spine. It wailed, stumbling back. It let out a low growl, crouching down in a defensive position. As you watched the silver bullet damage the beast, the warm sensation of hope grew in you. Gripping the gun with growing confidence, you held it to your eye, letting out another shot. This time the Wendigo, on all fours, jumped to the side, skidding on the leaves. You kept the gun up, resisting in your mind the names of the loved ones this beast had killed when it raided your small village. Each one of these names empowered you, filling you with the resolve to end this beasts miserable existence, even if it costed you your own. You continued to fire, following the creature with your gun as it moved. Threading through the trees, the creature howled as your training began to kick in, landing several shots. The creature stopped moving, shifting back to the appearance of the doe. It beetled pitifully at you as you approached, reloading your gun. "Do you know the kind of blood shed you have caused? The lives that you have snuffed out?" You questioned it, your eyes beginning to brim with tears. The creature became quiet as you spoke, as if listening. Cocking the gun, you held it to the beasts head. "I will tell you the names of those you slayed in cold blood." You spoke, warm tears falling down your cheek. You gritted your teeth tightly, your throat was pained as you swallowed the thick lump that grew. Finally, you choked out the last time. "For Reinhardt. My best friend!" The black eyes of the doe stared into your own, as if searching for something deep inside them. The bullet traveled through the beasts skull, cracking it open. A thick black liquid drained from the hole, the body laying still on the ground. The tears fell from your chin, onto the forest floor. You finally let yourself mourn for your losses. Through the blurred vision of your tear eyes, you saw the beast make one last transformation. Wiping your eyes with your sleeve, there, a hole through his head, laid Rein. Your mouth fell open, your knees collapsing underneath you. The monster hadn't killed Rein. It was Rein. the end >w>/! ChocoxRein
