One day, a man entered a temple that housed forty-eight statues possessed by demons and made a deal: in exchange for ultimate power, they could each take a piece of his soon-to-be born son. Soon after the child came into the world and the demons held up their end of the bargain; the man then left the crippled child in the river to die.

The story revolves around a high school student named Mahiru Shirota, who likes simple things and dislikes difficult things. One day, he picks up a stray black cat he finds in the middle of the road and gives him the name Kuro.

A girl named Rachel wakes up in an unknown place with no memory of how she got there or what her life was. She starts to explore the area and ends of finding a bunch of psychopathic people that each have their own floor in the building that their in.

Izayoi Sakamaki, Asuka Kudou, and You Kasukabe have tremendous psychic powers and are bored with the regular world. An envelope arrives for each person, and when each opens their envelope, they are stunned to see the scenery around them change to a world they had never encountered before.

The story takes place in the incredible city No. 6, a future model city in 2013.
