People are entitled to their attractions. I don't think its wrong or unfair to prefer guys or girls who are in shape as opposed to those who may not have genetic advantages in that area. I mean on the biological level, what is attraction other than an assessment of the genes that another has to offer? That said, we do have a rather ridiculous standard of beauty in society, and we should remember to treat anyone, whether they're a stick figure super model, or a chubby couch potato. Because there is a person there, and they deserve to be treated as such. Also, yeah. As a skinny guy standing at 5'8 in above average shape for my age (Somewhat naturally fit, but nothing amazing), I do tend to have more trouble attracting women than men who are more tall and/or stocky guys. So I can attest to Teacup there. A lot of women don't have a problem with the expanded gut if you know how to own who you are. They have more of a presence after all. And when I think about it, most of my single guy friends are also skinny, or they're on the "Short" spectrum. Here in ohio, we seem to have the opposite problem. Think I might grab my single guy friends and try to find out where Teacup lives and go to where we're in higher demand. XD

They should.

Depends on the person really. While people are free to want to date someone or not based on looks in my opinion if people judge your worth on looks alone without caring about you as a person then that would be someone that you should stay far away from. Do things for yourself and your health and not for other people.

Depends on the girl. But then again, you could be really hot in terms of looks but if you have the charisma of a wet paper bag then chances are nobody's interested. I feel charisma goes a long way, you can be ugly but girls would still be interested in you if your personality is likeable - at least that's what I find from my experiences as someone who isn't conventionally good looking. In other words, have faith in yourself in just being yourself because chances are someone will take a liking to you.

I don't think it takes that much to be in good shape. Drink some water and lift a few weights; maybe even running can altogether be accomplished in 20-30 minutes and enough to get begin. You can even do 1 push up every day and it'll be enough to change you psychologically. If you do this you'll look fairly in shape and muscularly toned, maybe not like Son Goku physique but still pretty good. When I started exercising, I made it a daily goal to just "arrive at the gym". I didn't have to do anything at the gym - I could come and leave. Then pretty soon I would do a little bit more before leaving, and then a little bit became a little more. I ended up feeling much better and healthier. I think that's an important gift for your prospective love interest, to give them the knowledge you're able to take care of yourself psychologically and physically.

Doing it ONLY "for yourself" is a bunch of crap. ALL of our main drive pertaining to our appearance is how others view us. Guys do not work out just so they can stare at themselves in the mirror and be like "Yessir, I did all this for you, Man-in-the-mirror!" They do it to make themselves more appealing, which in turn gives them more confidence. I personally do NOT use my elliptical, free weights, and do sit-ups a few days a week just to take selfies and look at them before I go to bed. I do NOT dress up in collared shirts, sweaters, and cardigans just to eat a microwave dinner by myself. Practically everything is about how others will perceive us. The car we drive. The job we work. The house we live in. Being single on holidays that celebrate couples. NO ONE is immune to this. Anyone that says they don't care what others think is full of shit. Why does 90% of this site not show pictures of themselves? Because of the social anxiety of how others will judge them. Rather than make excuses to justify being out of shape, which (surprise!) means you'll REMAIN out of shape, go fucking do something about it. As for the OP's question, I'd say most girls don't care if a guy is in shape or not as long as he doesn't fall into the categories Mary mentioned. However, is there a preference? Pfft you damn right there's a preference. If a girl could somehow take all the qualities she's looking for in a guy and put them in a container, how many would HONESTLY say "Put them in the one on the left." https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/dc/f9/29/dcf9299bbaa0efdfb73b73e69ee9dff8.png Obviously no one gets to choose the container, so she looks for a guy that makes her happy, and if he happens to look like the one on the right, then that's a bonus.
