People spreading lies on this site.

How do I deal with someone spreading lies about me on this site? I was recently becoming quite good friends with someone, and they asked me "are you a catfish?" which seemed really strange to me. I proved to them I wasn't and asked why they thought such a thing in the first place, and their response was "someone added me and told me to be aware of you and that you are a catfish." Someone literally added someone just to tell them I'm a catfish, and I've never even talked to the person spreading this lie before. My friend told me that he said that he heard it from somewhere else, but like, how the heck do I deal with something like this? I feel like a lot of the people I talk to who just suddenly stop talking to me do so because of this reason. It is really bothering me.

In my case, I didn't reply just because I was not sure what to write...I'm not very talkative..

I have no idea, try to talk on the forums a bit or something, to show that you're a real deal. Or put a pic in the picture section if you're comfortable enough with doing that, but most aren't.

It's often easy to prove a catfish because I've seen a LOT of familiar photos of semi-famous instagram people and stuff like that on these kinds of sites. Hell it's even more galling when I see people with pictures of people I PERSONALLY know myself - it can get that stupid. Those people are very easy to suss out. There's nothing you can really do - even showing pictures of yourself can't fully solve the problem, all you can really do is just continue what you're doing. Keep talking and befriending others and show that you are the real deal through your character and personality. You'll gain friends who will genuinely care about you and you'll happily lose those who don't give a damn.
