Do you really need your bf/gf to like anime?

masuji
You have to consider how your interests line up. I had a friend who loved video games, but only liked Sailor Moon anime, she's a 7th day adventist I'm an atheist, she loves her family, I don't care for family nearly as much etc. I can bear an anime like Sailor Moon occasionally (Have all 5 seasons on my 2TB disk drive) but I could never watch it in exchange for other anime. She's quirky as it is so I would have a tough time reconciling her interests/beliefs with mine, so when we graduated nothing ever happened with us. It'd have been a rocky relationship.

I mean, i'm not a super hardcore anime fan i grew out of being super obsessed long ago. but i would absolutely prefer dating a nerd. comics/anime/scifi whatever really. it's funny how much anime has influenced my life, my hobbies, my major etc. I can always connect deeper with someone who can geek out

I would certainly prefer a girl that at least likes anime a little.

Probably sounds stupid, but yes. They don't really need to like the same anime as me-I like exploring new series to get into-but they do need to like anime. I mean, I draw it, talk about, write about it, I even want to get into voice acting. If they don't like anime...what the hell would be the common ground?

I don't "need" to have my bf/gf to like anime. Well, actually I'd prefer it if they did. But at any case, its like saying my car doesn't "need" gas. But if it doesn't have it - IT ISNT GOING ANYWHERE! So in a sense, my significant other is like a car. It doesn't need gas, but thats gonna make a pretty boring relationship without it. I think I'm the only person who just referred their future significant other to a car. I'm gonna get shot. -.-

I wouldn't really care. I'm not much of a huge anime fan myself, though I have friends who are pretty into it. I think the last anime I saw was like... bubblegum crisis? Whatever was around at that time frame. I think a lot of these things you gotta take it in balance. If you were so much into anime that you can't talk/do/have an interest in anything else, then we'd might have a problem. But generally, my friends and I mostly get along just on general life issues

No anime is quite a deal breaker.I have had many relationships end because of my anime/video game enjoyment.I noticed many girls are not so accepting of the culture.

I think as long as they didn't have a severe dislike for anime then it would be fine.

Wtf is the point of being here if you don't want your lover to be into anime? Hell yea it's a must...

Well, I see it like this: If I were to find a bf that was not into anime, that would actually be okay with me to a certain extent. Here's my reason: I understand that not everybody likes the same things, and I wouldn't force him to like it, but I would introduce it to him to get his opinion on it. If he decides that he doesn't like it at all, then we would still have to have at least SOMETHING in common or something we can actually agree on or else it would obviously never work out. (For example: my love of cats, music, writing, etc)
