you're not a poser, everyone's a newb at some point in their lives, well ignoring the "adult swim" anime, hitman reborn is a must watch if you like action animes, if you like gore then elfien lied is a must, all otaku have watched the following three animes lucky star, azumanga daioh, and the haruhi series, the first season is called the meloncholy of haruhi, if you're into dramas then you MUST watch clannad, also a great classic is "all purpose cultral cat girl nuku nuku" I have a list of good animes, but start off with those.
