Meh, why do the childhood friends never win? Even the anime above is completely about such, and it looks like she will be the one in tears. So many anime's like this, and though I know in the end its fruitless, I still find myself rooting for them. Anyone else have a character type they tend to favor?

I think they've done fine in just as many shows as they lost out on.
